Leadership Prespectives on the OSHA Crane & Derrick Rules
Presenters:
Chris Ryan – CEM
Burt Thorpe – CEM
Overview:
This session will explore the company and fleet management leadership roles in the OSHA – Crane and Derricks in Construction; Final Rule (29 CFR Part 1926). The rule addresses the four primary causes of death and injury to construction workers as well as other hazards associated with crane use. The new rule also covers the training and certification/qualification of crane operators, the use of qualified riggers, and signal person qualification. Since the rules became final in November 2010, the industry has scrambled to interpret the rules and come into compliance. The 273-page document contains a great deal of information that requires management to take the lead, not just comply with the rules.
Essential learning will include:
• Employer responsibilities
• Making the hard decisions – who’s in charge.
• Leaderships role – what can you do to make a difference.
• The good, bad and ugly – making the industry safer.
